Frequent Questions Semaglutide

Frequent Questions

Semaglutide was initially FDA approved for diabetic patients. However, on June 4th, 2021 it was also approved for weight loss in adults. The approval was based on a five-year clinical trial of more than 17,600 patients which found that semaglutide reduced the risk of heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death by 20%.

Your brain receives messages from various parts of your body in the form of hormones. Some of these messages come from hormones that control your appetite and help manage how much you eat. Semaglutide works by acting like one of the hormones your body naturally releases in response to eating. In turn, it reduces appetite, so you consume less calories which results in weight loss.

Some weight loss medications are intended for short-term use, while others might be part of a longer-term plan. This is going to be different for everyone and is based on their weight loss goals. Once you reach your goal weight, the idea is to start weaning off the medication.

The goal is to reach a weight you are comfortable at.  Once you are there, we will begin to wean you off the medication by slowly lowering the dose until we are able to titrate you off completely. There is a chance of weight regain if one is not conscientious about food intake, the amount of calories consumed, and physical activity. This is an important phase of treatment and we work very closely with each patient during this time.

This medication delays gastric emptying, which may interfere with some medications.  We complete a thorough medical history on every patient.  Please make sure to disclose all medications you are taking so our providers can advise if there are any interactions. It is important to note that you can only be on one injectable weight loss medication and that oral birth control (pills) can be less effective during treatment with Semaglutide.

Semaglutide is contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), in patients with an endocrine system condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2), and in patients who have had a serious allergic reaction to Semaglutide.

We currently do not accept any insurance. Our prices start at $200/month for the lowest dose and cost will increase with higher doses of Semaglutide.
